Unmanned helicopters use sensors from Inertial Aerosystems
Unmanned helicopters are using AHRS attitude and heading reference units from Inertial Aerosystems within the flight control system and for operating cameras and other scanning sensors.
Inertial Aerosystems is announcing that one of its attitude and heading reference units (AHRS) has been incorporated in an unmanned helicopter (UAV). This high-tech unit is an essential component in the flight control system and facilitates the use of cameras and other scanning sensors.
The data from the AHRS is used to compute the pitch, roll and heading of the platform, and the open communications code facilitates synchronisation of the AHRS with GPS. Furthermore, the combination of accelerometers, magnetometers and gyroscopes optimises orientation accuracy during static operations such as hovering.
Inertial Aerosystems says that the low power consumption, size and weight of the AHRS make it eminently suitable for small unmanned helicopters and other land, sea and air remotely-controlled platforms.
Unmanned helicopters are applicable to a variety of tasks such as aerial filming and monitoring of scenarios such as fire, border control, traffic inspection, courier and military surveillance
