Procter Machine Guarding has updated its user-friendly list of machinery safety standards. This web page lists some 80 British, European and International standards, plus other relevant draft standards and Published Documents. The most recent addition to the page is the newly published BS EN ISO 14119:2013, Safety of machinery. Interlocking devices associated with guards. Principles for design and selection, which is replacing BS EN 1088. Note that as well as listing standards relating to machine guarding, the web page also covers general machinery safety standards.
Machine builders will appreciate the inclusion of Published Documents and draft standards that can prove helpful when adopting best practice for state-of-the-art machinery. While the list is not intended to be exhaustive - hence it does not include every 'Type C' standard relating to specific classes of machinery - this web page is an excellent starting point for machine builders seeking to identify applicable standards. For more information about 'Type C' standards, readers are directed to the BSI website and the European Commission's list of standards harmonised to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
