Video helps engineers choose between ball and lead screws

Thomson Industries has produced a video tutorial that examines the benefits of ball screws and lead screws and how to choose the best cost-performance linear motion product for a given application.

Tobias Mnch, Thomson Product Line Specialist comments: "Ball screws provide unequalled precision and smooth motion and are very efficient and low friction, but a good-quality precision-ground lead screw can offer excellent repeatability and stiffness. In such difficult times, choosing the right component can help OEMs gain a competitive edge without compromising on performance."

In the video, screw expert Jeff Johnson at Thomson discusses the main differences between the two types of screw and offers practical advice on selecting the right component. Key considerations include choosing the right screw for greater efficiency, reduced costs, load handling and noise control.

Thomson invented anti-friction linear technology 67 years ago, and has a wide variety of standard lead and ball screw technologies manufactured for precision and reliability, with expertise to customise to just about any application requirement.
