Vision app-based cameras now available from IDS

Following their introduction as prototypes at VISION 2018, the versatile IDS NXT rio and rome vision app-based camera families are now available as pre-series samples. Customers can choose between different protection classes (IDS NXT rome comes with IP65/67), sensors and variants with Smart GenICam or artificial intelligence (AI).

The models communicate via GigE Vision and are optionally equipped with a 1.3MP e2v sensor or a 3.1MP or 5MP Sony sensor. The standard functions of the IDS NXT cameras can be individually extended using vision apps. All models allow image processing 'on the edge'; this embedded solution reduces the load on the host PC, energy consumption and system costs.

IDS says its NXT rio and rome models can replace other GigE Vision cameras without the need for special programming. With Smart GenICam and AI-supported image processing, they provide added value that standard cameras cannot offer.

Smart GenICam means that the models can not only be accessed via image processing software such as Halcon or LabView like any other GenICam-compliant industrial camera, but even user-programmed camera functions can be accessed and executed directly.

For models with artificial intelligence, inference times of a few milliseconds are possible thanks to FPGA-based AI acceleration. The reprogrammability of the integrated ANN accelerator offers additional advantages in terms of sustainability, low recurring costs and time-to-market.
