Vision systems integrator goes from strength to strength

Vision systems integrator Olmec-UK is strengthening its design and manufacturing teams with local expertise through the addition of Rob Newton and Scott Straub as automation engineers, Ryan Swain as a vision software engineer and Jaymes Truman as an apprentice electrical technician. These new appointments reflect the growing number of integration projects being undertaken by the company.

Vision systems integrator goes from strength to strength

Olmec Technical Director, Robert Pounder, says: "The company has seen significant growth over the past year. Existing customers have seen the real benefits offered by vision inspection and have asked us to add vision to more of their production lines, and we have also been awarded several projects by new customers. This has led us to expanding in the key areas which are a real strength of the company."

Rob Newton, formerly of Kimberley Clark, is a controls specialist and has particular experience with high-speed (1500 products/min) production lines and vision integration. He has extensive experience with Rockwell Automation plcs and Cognex vision systems. Scott Straub has worked at Smith & Nephew, and also has experience with automating control systems and integrating Omron, Cognex and Teledyne DALSA vision systems at the end of line. He has specialised in both electrical and HMI design.

Ryan Swain is a graduate from Hull University and has worked on hardware and embedded systems, including the development of an Android app to control a full size Dalek, complete with sensors, cameras etc! He has special responsibility for software development in a variety of programming languages and for vision testing. Jaymes Truman's apprenticeship includes studying for an HNC in Electrical Engineering as part of a scheme established by the Humberside Engineering Training Association.

Pounder continues: "Although we are now involved in a number of international integration projects, Olmec-UK has its roots in Humberside. We are well aware that there is a wealth of highly competent engineers with directly relevant practical experience in the local area, so we are delighted to be able to both move the company forward to the next level and support the local economy at the same time."
