Visual indication from IP69K compression latch

EMKA has introduced a stainless steel IP69K compression latch that offers users a visual status indication

Said to be especially suitable for railway and other special vehicle applications, the new latch allows for visual confirmation of the lock status from a distance – whether it is open or closed – by virtue of a cover which is linked to the lock. If the lock is open then the cover is also held open. Due to its compact design and high weather resistance, EMKA says that the latch can be used in many outdoor applications and cites the examples of wind power plants, tunnel construction and  traffic facilities as well as railway stock.

The lid of the new EMKA compression lock is spring-mounted and snaps shut automatically only when closed. If the lock is turned by 25 degrees or more, the lid remains open at an angle of 90 degrees. In this case, a clearly visible opening indicator then appears on the inside of the lid: a red area with an EMKA logo. On trains for example, railway personnel can thus confirm from a distance whether or not a door or flap is completely closed.

EMKA also highlights the resistance of the new lock to shaking and vibration which helps prevent unintentional opening: and the lock complies with IP69K and fire protection regulations too. Other features include an automatic flap closure with a seal on the lock to protect from damage to the door.
