Warehouse expansion for WEG Belgium

Growth facilitates extra motor storage and additional services for customers

Gearbox, motor and drive manufacturer WEG has extended its warehouse in Belgium. The expansion will increase storage space at the site by 1,800 sq m, facilitating future growth for the company, increasing flexibility for customers and providing new office space for staff.

The additional storage expands on the current 4,200 sq m warehouse, extending the total size to 6000 sq m. The expansion allows for the installation of three extra docks. These docks can handle larger machines weighing up to 12 tonnes, providing WEG with potential to deal with bigger projects.

In addition to the increase in docking space, an extra ramp has also been installed to help trucks load and unload at the WEG facility.

Sustained growth

“WEG’s expansion in Belgium was not a need, but a must,” says the company. “Despite the financial disruptions faced worldwide, WEG has sustained continuous annual growth during the last 15 years. Having previously been pushed to capacity, the warehouse expansion allows WEG to install additional storage racks and therefore deliver more to customers. “

Along with the new expansion, improvements have been made to the existing building. The preparation zone, which is the area where products are prepared for its transfer to the shipping area, has been increased to implement WEG’s customised preparation approach to quality checks.

In addition to the usual box moving, WEG’s services include the labelling of motors and packaging, which needed to be accommodated for quality checks for customers.

Sefety measures

Investment has also been made for safety measures in the warehouse. Safety grids have been purchased to go inside the racks.

“Our investment in the Belgium facility is a long term one.” explains Omer Vanheer, managing director at WEG Benelux. “Looking to the future, we want to stay in this place for many years and the expansion reflects our dedication to the business in this region.”
