Webcast introduces LabVIEW 2013 graphical system design software

'School's Back in Session' as engineers and scientists are invited to register for the Summer of LabVIEW 12-part webcast series taking place from 29th July through to 16th August. The webcasts aim to introduce new users of LabVIEW to graphical system design as well as developing the skills of current LabVIEW users. With LabVIEW 2013 launching at NIWeek in Austin, Texas this August, Summer of LabVIEW webcast attendees will be amongst the very first to learn about the new features of the graphical system design software as it continues to enhance the integrity and efficiency of system design.

Webcast introduces LabVIEW 2013 graphical system design software

This series of webcasts aims to educate the full spectrum of LabVIEW users from beginners through to graphical system design experts. Sessions tailored for beginners introduce LabVIEW, dataflow and data acquisition such as the "What is LabVIEW?' webcast which explains the fundamentals of graphical system design. More advanced topics show the benefits of standardised design patterns and the basics of software engineering, with one particular webcast: "Tips and Tricks from a Certified LabVIEW Architect', sharing best practices in how to use the software to code like an expert. Most importantly, attendees will discover how National Instruments LabVIEW takes any measurement and control system on the faster route to success with the Keynote session, "The Path to Success with NI LabVIEW'.

Each webcast will be streamed twice, first at 2pm and then again at 10am the following day. Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions and discuss topics with fellow viewers and session presenters throughout each webcast. Summer of LabVIEW webcasts will also be available to watch on demand after the series is complete. Please visit uk.ni.com/summeroflabview to register and find out more.

Week 1: LabVIEW Fundamentals

Keynote: The Path to Success with NI LabVIEW, Monday 29th July - 2pm, Tuesday 30th July - 10am

Any programming language is a journey, often fraught with dangers and temptations. See how learning LabVIEW, can be eased by National Instruments and the wider community, in order to take the faster route to success.

What is LabVIEW?, Tuesday 30th July - 2pm, Wednesday 31st July - 10am

LabVIEW is a comprehensive development environment that contains all the tools engineers and scientists need to design and deploy measurement and control systems. This webcast examines the fundamentals of graphical system design and shows how LabVIEW can benefit applications by providing diverse real-world measurements, including signal processing, advanced embedded control and industrial deployment.

Introduction to Data Acquisition, Wednesday 31st July - 2pm, Thursday 1st August - 10am

Discover how LabVIEW graphical system design software can accelerate productivity and create custom applications for data acquisition and instrument control. LabVIEW provides tight integration with hardware, simplifying the process of automating measurement acquisition from a wide variety of sensors and 3rd party instruments. Additionally, LabVIEW has built-in data analysis functions, visualisation components and sharing features, saving time in order to translate results into decisions quickly.

Introduction to Instrument Control, Thursday 1st August - 2pm, Friday 2nd August - 10am

Understand how LabVIEW can be used to communicate with and easily obtain data from instruments. See how the power of the graphical approach and hardware abstraction allows the user to concentrate on the task rather than the bus.

Week 2: Summer School for LabVIEW Developers

Practical Techniques for Moving Beyond One Loop, Monday 5th August - 2pm, Tuesday 6th August - 10am

This webcast focuses on the evolution of an application from a single loop to using the Queued Message Handler, a fundamental design pattern for many NI LabVIEW architectures. Also learn methodologies for communicating among loops, stopping parallel loops, handling errors and other key concepts, such as functional global variables.

What's New in LabVIEW 2013, Tuesday 6th August - 2pm, Wednesday 7th August - 10am

Discover how LabVIEW 2013 stands firm as the ultimate system design software. With over 25 years' success, LabVIEW has enabled engineers worldwide to innovate with confidence. Learn how LabVIEW continues to enhance the integrity and efficiency of system design.

The Benefits of Templates and Sample Projects, Wednesday 7th August - 2pm, Thursday 8th August - 10am

LabVIEW 2013 features new templates and sample projects that reduce development time and complexity by providing strong foundations for new applications. This webcast discusses the value of LabVIEW design patterns, including state machines and queued message handlers, and how to select appropriate core architecture.

Best Practices for Software Development, Thursday 8th August - 2pm, Friday 9th August - 10am

The use of software development best practices can help ensure the quality and reliability of any LabVIEW application. Learn how the use of Project Libraries and other configuration management tools can help enforce good coding practices and make development processes easier.

Week 3: Taking the Next Steps with LabVIEW

My Life with the SCC, Monday 12th August - 2pm, Tuesday 13th August - 10am

It is rare for a single engineer to work alone when developing a large, complex LabVIEW application. For the vast majority of applications, a team of developers or engineers will work together on the same set of code. A LabVIEW Developer discusses why source code control is vitally important as well as how to set it up, manage it and interact with it on a daily basis.

Event-Based Programming with LabVIEW, Tuesday 13th August - 2pm, Wednesday 14th August - 10am

This demo-centric webcast illustrates how event-based programming can simplify design and implementation. Learn the capabilities of the static and dynamic events within LabVIEW and see how they can be utilised as both an enhancement to the user interface and for data transfer.

When Do I Use OOP?, Wednesday 14th August - 2pm, Thursday 15th August - 10am

This webcast will cover the when and why of moving to an object-oriented programming (OOP) approach. Several common OOP design patterns, their implementation in LabVIEW and reasons for implementing these specific patterns will be discussed.
