Approximately 50 of WEG's H- and M-line machines have been chosen to drive production facilities at the largest single mine development in Kazakhstan by both volume and value, the Bozshakol Clay Project. Owned by one of the world's top copper producers, the Kazakhmys Corporation, the Bozshakol sulphide and clay complex has an estimated annual ore processing capacity of 30 million tonnes and will employ around 1500 people, with a similar number involved in the construction phase. The enterprise will contribute to Kazakhstan's long-term industrial development.

WEG's involvement is based on the joint efforts and cooperation of several WEG branches in Australia, UK and Russia, including the significant contribution of WEG's local partner in Kazakhstan, the Alpha-Centre company. WEG's focus on cooperation with OEMs, well-timed feedback from all the markets involved, and coordination from the WEG global projects team, made it possible for WEG to offer the most competitive options including logistics, certification and service issues.

Sergey Mushchenko, Managing Director at WEG CIS says: "WEG is delighted to provide the Kazakhmys corporation with reliable electric machines to ensure process efficiency, productivity and a high-degree of reliability. Being a supplier for such a large-scale project really demonstrates WEG's high level of engineering competence and expertise with complex international EPC business. As the WEG local branch, we see our top priority as providing the perfect quality of service for the Kazakhmys Corporation throughout the installation, commissioning and operation of the equipment. We are always there to enable smooth and reliable work from our machines".

The development phase of Bozshakol Clay Project in Kazakhstan began ahead of schedule, with pre-production mining scheduled for 2014 and the first ore to be processed at the concentrator by 2015. The capital cost for the project is in the region of 1.18 billion.
