What are the design considerations when specifying lead screws?

The first in the new ‘Design • Engineer • Build’ series of video podcasts focuses on lead screws – components that are at the heart of countless engineering systems. We talk to Phil Jones at Abssac about the enduring popularity of these essential design products, and the design considerations in their specification.

Abssac is an established supplier of precision lead screws, encompassing power, miniature and high helix thread forms. Lead screws are used in a very broad range of applications, and with four decades of application experience, Abssac is able to provide the correct linear product into an ever-expanding range of applications is easily achievable.

All lead screws can be combined with a range of nuts to suit a myriad of performances whilst the advantage of having an in-house machine shop enables the fast delivery of the lead screw and nut program that is ready to fit. Abssac is also able to reverse engineer linear products should original drawings not exist.

Design • Engineer • Build is a video and podcast series produced by The Engineering Network, publishers of Industrial Technology Magazine, MachineBuilding.net and FasteningandBonding.net. The videos and podcasts are specially produced to provide engineers with insight and expertise in a variety of key subject areas, with invited experts discussing their various technologies and how they can be best employed and utilised.
