World’s smallest stainless-steel type 4 RFID safety interlock with guard locking

UK-based Idem Safety Switches has created what it says it's the world's smallest hygienic safety locking switch with Type 4 RFID coded sensor and OSSD outputs.

Made from mirror-polished 316 stainless steel, this safety switch is tested to IP67 and IP69K and is suitable for SIP and CIP cleaning.

The head of the switch includes an adjustable latch mechanism which Idem says provides industry-leading tolerance to misalignment, for smooth operation, even on heavy doors. The RFID signal can be received from all three entry positions on the switch, making it easy to install on all types of guarding applications.

The MLZ's flexible actuator is spring loaded with a smooth tongue design, reducing friction on entry and ensuring a long mechanical life cycle. Features of the MLZ include:

  • Actuator entry from three positions with 4000N holding force
  • Connect up to 30 units, maintaining CAT4, SIL3, PLe
  • Easy to understand LED indication
  • Compact design: 30mm x 30mm x 133mm
  • Stainless steel gate bolt handle accessory for simple mounting

This addition to Idem's stainless steel range creates new opportunities for machine and guard builders to take advantage of its small footprint / high strength design, said Medi Mohtasham, managing director of Idem Safety Switches.
