David Hearn, former Stemmer Imaging UK managing director

It is with great sadness that Stemmer Imaging announces that former UK managing director, David Hearn, passed away on March 21st 2020 after battling a long illness. Since 2004, when Firstsight Vision became the first company to join Stemmer Imaging, up until his retirement due to ill health last year, David led the Stemmer Imaging UK business from strength to strength.

SGET adopts SMARC 2.1 specification for embedded computing

congatec is delighted that SGET has approved the new SMARC 2.1 specification. With Christian Eder as editor, congatec was instrumental in shaping the specification. The new revision brings numerous additional features, such as SerDes support for extended edge connectivity and up to 4 MIPI-CSI camera interfaces to meet the increasing demand for a fusion of embedded computing and embedded vision. The new features are backward-compatible with Rev. 2.0, which means that 2.1 modules can be integrated on 2.0 carriers. All extensions to Rev.2.0 are also optional, so all congatec SMARC 2.0 modules are automatically compatible with SMARC 2.1.

High-precision QA equipment for measurement & test applications

Aerotech wanted to show several highlights at the world's leading trade fair for quality assurance, Control 2020, but the trade fair is cancelled. The next Control event will be held in May 2021. Beside a new hexapod with a diameter of 150mm, Aerotech wanted to show the Integrated Granite Motion System (IGM) and the two-axis PlanarDL linear table and, on the software side, the innovative Automation1 control platform.

Video shows how igus iglidur PRT slewing rings are constructed

Slewing ring bearings have been in use for many years; however, lubrication can be a challenge. This is because the stop/start motion of the slewing disrupts the necessary oil build-up. A typical way to overcome this problem is to pump lubricant into the bearing to assure consistent coverage. A better way is to use lubrication-free polymer slewing ring bearings, which are maintenance free and particularly wear resistant.

NSK endorses recommendations in TCFD report on climate change

NSK has endorsed recommendations made in the final report of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). Within the report, it is recommended that corporations disclose information on risks and opportunities related to climate change which impact upon finance. The TCFD was established by the Financial Stability Board (FSB), an international body that monitors and makes recommendations about the global financial system.

Hannover Messe 2020 cancelled

Hannover Messe cannot take place this year due to the increasingly critical situation surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic. The Hannover region has issued a decree that prohibits the staging of the world's leading tradeshow for industrial technology. From now until the next Hannover Messe in April 2021, a digital information and networking offer will provide exhibitors and visitors with the opportunity for economic policy orientation and technological exchange.

Xuezheng Zhang (Wing) named new CEO of Nexperia

On 24 March 2020 Nexperia announced that CEO Frans Scheper has decided to take early retirement and will step down as Nexperia CEO and Management Board Member on 25 March 2020. At the same time, Xuezheng Zhang (Wing), currently Chairman of the Management Board of Nexperia, will assume the role of CEO.
