New venue for Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2018

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics takes place in the new purpose-built exhibition venue at Farnborough from 6-8 February 2018. Described by the organisers as the UK's largest and arguably most influential annual engineering show, Southern Manufacturing celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2018.

Renishaw strengthens education outreach programme

To support its popular education outreach programme, Renishaw has launched a new dedicated section of its website. Aimed at parents, teachers and school students in South Gloucestershire, Bristol and South Wales, the area gives information about its on-site workshops and educational facilities, which aim to get young people involved in engineering. The pages also include engineering careers information, an online booking form and engineering careers "˜mythbusting'. The pages can be accessed online here.

Update on an advanced physical layer for industrial Ethernet

FieldComm Group, ODVA and PI (Profibus & Profinet International) have joined together to provide an update on the current status of future technology and standards for an advanced physical layer for Industrial Ethernet that will be suitable for use in demanding applications in process instrumentation, commonly referred to as "APL". Their briefing explained industry activities and the projected timeline to realise an APL for Industrial Ethernet - as intrinsically safe, single-pair and long-reach - for use with process automation field devices. The organisations were joined by representative from suppliers of process instrumentation and controls in order to provide a well-rounded perspective on the benefits of an advanced physical layer for end users in the process industries, as well as discuss the actions being taken to complete the work needed to realise APL in process field devices.

ESAB G series regulators now manufactured in Europe

ESAB has invested heavily in a factory in Poland to manufacture its popular G Series pressure and flow regulators for customers in Europe. With production now taking place closer to this key market, customers are benefiting from better stock levels at distributors and faster deliveries of non-stocked items in just 5-7 days.
