Schaeffler SpindleSense reduces downtime, increases utilisation

The main spindle is crucial to the performance capability of the complete machine tool. It is at the heart of the machine and largely defines the achievable cutting capacity, surface quality, and precision. In turn, the spindle bearing support is one of the most heavily loaded components because it must transmit machining forces precisely at very high speeds for long periods of time and the risk of collisions can never be ruled out. It therefore comes as no surprise that the majority of machine tool downtime can be traced back to defective spindles, particularly as a result of collisions and continuous, undetected overloads.

High-performance modular system for direct-drive rotary tables

In directly driven rotary tables and swivel-type axes, the torque motor, the rotary table bearing, and the angular measuring system constitute a complex system with a large number of interactions regarding heat flow, cogging, speed and acceleration capability, rigidity, frictional torque, and positioning accuracy. It is therefore hugely beneficial if all three components come from a single source and are perfectly matched to each other in one modular system. Schaeffler Direct Drives, based in Suhl (Germany), offers three torque motor series for a wide range of applications, while Schaeffler offers three INA bearing series and an angular measuring system integrated into the bearing.
